Practice, Practice, Practice !
A successful education depends heavily on the partnership between school and home. We are constantly reviewing material in school but further practice at home is necessary for the full mastery of these skills
Children should practice the recognition of capital and lowercase letters. (Many children know the pair only because they are shown together on alphabet cards. They must also practice them separately as we do in school). Letter sounds should be reviewed every night as a quick drill. Their books are sent home upon completion for you to use as a review. We will be beginning to put the sounds together to form words as soon as we have covered enough letters/sounds to do so. Knowledge of the letter sounds is mandatory or they will find themselves falling behind. Struggling with the letter sounds can cause a child to feel discouraged. We want to preserve their self-confidence and maintain their excitement for learning. You will be surprised at how much your child can achieve if practice if applied at home as well as in school. (The same applies to our math skills).
It is exciting to witness your child’s delight when things begin to “click” and they become more fluent when blending sounds. The world opens up to them! Enjoy the process!
