Walk –up Privileges
Soon, the Kindergarten children will have the same walk-up privileges as the rest of the school. A note regarding this was in one of the packets handed out in the beginning of September and was briefly mentioned at Open House night.
This means that the children will now enter the building through the yard doors nearest to Union Turnpike (by the basketball court). These are the same doors that every other grade uses in the morning. Our Kindergarten children will walk up the stairs and go directly into their classroom (no longer lining up in the cafeteria). Students will be considered late if they are not in their classrooms by 8:20am.
Some things to be aware of…
1. If your child is entering the building at 8:15, they probably will not be in their classrooms on time. Just because they enter through these doors while they are still open does not ensure that they will not be late to class. Please allow for the time they need to walk up the stairs and down the hallway to their rooms. Once these doors are closed, the children will have to enter through the main doors as usual. Please do not use the main doors until the back doors are closed.
2. Parents should not try to enter the building to walk their children up to the classroom. If they need assistance in the beginning, an older child can be asked to escort them up. The hallway will be clearly marked with red arrows to follow. This should not be a problem for them because this is the way we walk back up to our rooms every day after recess.
3. The doors by the cafeteria may still be open in the morning to receive ONLY the bus children who come in before 8:00am and for the children who participate in the morning or breakfast program but our kindergarten children should NOT be using these doors for entrance in the morning any longer.
***Our dismissal routine remains the same.
